Lidl's history goes as far back as the 1930's when the company was founded as grocery wholesale in Germany. Today, Lidl is one of the major grocery retailers inEurope.  The first Lidl store was opened near Ludwigshafen, Germany in 1973. The 1980's saw the Lidl discount concept grow nationally in Germany and then internationally in the 1990's. There are now Lidl stores in almost every country in Europe including Cyprus!
The company will continue to play a major role in the exploration of new markets in Europe and beyond in combination with the offer of top quality products at low prices to all customers. Lidl is focusing on customer satisfaction, acquiring a competitive market position and building strong teams.
Why Cyprus?
As a country with a stable economy and a good infrastructure, Lidl considers Cyprus an attractive market for European companies. During the 1990s Lidl started to open stores outside Germany and since then has expanded strongly throughout Europe. The goal is to provide top quality products at the lowest possible prices in every European country, including Cyprus.
Setting up in Cyprus
Setting up an operation in a new country is never easy but the simplicity that characterizes operations and work process is a cornerstone of success for Lidl. A lot of problems are often revealed during the launch process. It is very important to be well-organized, flexible and have the right business partners on your side so you can overcome every obstacle that may occur.
Future Plans
More ‘quality for less’, of course. Of all the things Lidl offers customers, their satisfaction is the main priority. For this reason, they shall be expanding its stores network and increasing the existing range of products to meet the customer demand in Cyprus.
“As a country with a stable economy and a good infrastructure, Cyprus is an attractive market for European companies. We were able to seamlessly combine the company’s principles and philosophy with local working conditions and consumer behaviour.”
Chrysovalantis Karagiannis, Managing Director, Lidl (Cyprus).
