The Government of the Republic of Cyprus and Microsoft Sign a Memorandum of Understanding - Apr 29, 2008

Nicosia, Cyprus — January 28th, 2008 — During a meeting between Honorable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mr. Antonis Michaelides and Microsoft Chairman Mr. Bill Gates, the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and Microsoft signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), that outlines the intention of the two parties to collaborate closely in a number of strategic initiatives over a period of 5 years. The meeting was held on January 22nd, 2008, in Berlin, Germany, during the Government Leaders Forum (GLF). In its eleventh year, the GLF is an annual Microsoft event which brings together the top government leaders from across Europe to exchange experiences and best practices related to good governance, socio-economic development, healthcare and education, as well as to discuss the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the achievement of goals in these areas. Launching of Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency - Jan 01, 2008

The Cyprus Government has undergone through structural reforms in order to create an effective institutional framework for investment promotion by establishing the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA). The newly established non-profit private limited company, with the Government being the sole member, will contribute dynamically and flexibly to the effective promotion of Cyprus as an international investment and business centre as well as to the infusion of foreign investments in the targeted sectors by positioning Cyprus 'on the radar screen' as a competitive regional hub for a wide range of targeted sectors. CIPA will be committed in providing extensive and professional assistance to foreign based companies and individuals who wish to investigate the possibility of investing in Cyprus as well as after care services to already established foreign based companies in Cyprus.
