FDI track record

Cyprus is one of the most attractive locations for foreign investments, ranking among the frontrunners of the world indicating both high FDI performance as well as high FDI potential, based on the latest World Investment Report of UNCTAD published in 2006.
 

• In 2008, Cyprus attracted a total of 1262.3 million Euro in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) compared to 1588 million Euro in 2007, 1462 million Euro in 2006 and 940.5 million Euro in 2005.
• The long-term FDI trend is positive, and Cyprus has the potential to attract even higher FDI.
• Although direct investment in 2008 fell, this is primarily due to a decline of foreign investment in the Real Estate sector.
• In 2007 the top three FDI sectors were Real Estate and Business Activities (755.6 million Euro), Trade and Repairs (395.8 million Euro), and Financial Intermediation (235.6 million Euro).
• In 2007, direct investments amounting to 969.4 million Euro (61.0%) came from European Union countries, while Europe as a whole contributed 1,514.6 million Euro (95.4%).
